New to Craft Beer? What to Order at Bullfrog in Valrico
Your first craft beer order can be simple. Find a flavor you like, understand the taplist, and plan a visit to Bullfrog Creek Brewing in Valrico.
You walk into a brewery, look at the taplist, and recognize about three words. Your friend already knows what they want. You’re still working out whether you like a Kölsch.
Fair enough. A beer menu can be a lot when you’re used to ordering the same thing.
If you’re coming to Bullfrog Creek Brewing from Valrico, Brandon, FishHawk, or Bloomingdale for the first time, start with what you already enjoy. You can work out the beer vocabulary later.
Tell us what you usually drink
The most useful thing you can say at the bar is pretty simple:
- “I usually drink a light lager.”
- “I like citrus flavors, but I don’t want much bitterness.”
- “I’d rather have something with a little caramel flavor.”
A beer name helps too. So does telling us about one you tried and didn’t like.
Be specific about the part that bothered you. Too bitter? Too sweet? Too heavy? That gives your bartender something to work with. You don’t need to describe the hops or know how it was brewed.
Pick a flavor direction
Our beer guide introduces the Bullfrog lineup. These are a few starting points to ask about, with the current taplist as your check on what’s available when you visit.
Familiar and light
King of Frogs is our light lager. If a smooth beer with a little grain flavor sounds right, start the conversation here.
It’s a useful reference point even if you decide to try something different. Tell the bartender what you like about your usual lager and how far you want to branch out.
Crisp, with a little more to explore
Hunting River Kölsch has bread-like malt flavor and a subtle fruity note. Long Pond, our German pilsner, brings floral hop character and a dry finish.
They’re two options to ask about when you want something crisp. You don’t have to choose based on the style name alone. Ask what the difference tastes like.
Citrus and tropical flavors
Propeller Wash, our hazy IPA, leans toward citrus and tropical fruit.
If those flavors appeal to you, mention it. If bitterness has put you off IPAs before, mention that too. The description gives you a starting point; your own preferences should make the decision.
Caramel malt
After Work Beer, our Irish red, is the one to ask about if caramel-like malt flavor catches your attention.
You can want more malt flavor without wanting an overly sweet beer. Say both. That distinction helps.
Ask two separate questions about “light”
“I want something light” can mean light in flavor or lower in alcohol. Tell us which one matters to you, or whether it’s both.
The taplist includes ABV, short for alcohol by volume. Check that number alongside the style and description. Ask about serving sizes as well.
A beer’s name tells you very little about how strong it is. The menu and your bartender are better places to look.
A flight can help you compare
We offer flights, so you can explore smaller pours instead of guessing on a full pint. Ask which beers are available for a flight, along with the current sizes and price.
Give the bartender a direction first. If you like crisp beers, compare options in that lane. If you’re curious about malt and hops, ask for a selection that lets you taste the difference.
Pay attention to what you enjoy. You might find one favorite, or simply learn which direction you’d like to try next time.
Make it lunch or dinner
You can keep the food decision simple too. Our food menu includes smash burgers, smoked wings, paninis, salads, and shareable sides.
Order something you want to eat. If you’d like a beer suggestion to go with it, ask. There doesn’t need to be a complicated pairing plan.

That’s plenty to start with.
