Best Breweries Near Brandon and Valrico, FL — An Honest Local Guide
Looking for craft breweries near Brandon or Valrico? Here's an honest breakdown of local options and what's worth the drive into Tampa.
The honest truth about craft beer in east Hillsborough: your options close to home are limited. If you’re in Brandon, Valrico, FishHawk, or Lithia and want a real taproom experience without hopping on I-75 for 30 minutes, the list gets short fast.
That’s not a complaint. It’s just the reality of living out here. So here’s a breakdown of what’s actually available, from your backyard to a reasonable drive into Tampa.
The Only Microbrewery in Valrico
Technically there are two spots in Valrico that brew beer. 3 Bulls is a nano brewery, but it operates more as a restaurant with a small brewing operation on the side. Good food, worth knowing about, different experience.
Bullfrog Creek Brewing Co. is the microbrewery. Founded in 2018 by Jamie and Kelly Ratcliff on Lithia Pinecrest Road, it’s veteran-owned and built around production brewing from day one. Full kitchen, dog-friendly patio, daily lunch specials, and a rotating tap list of house-brewed beers. They’ve brewed 380+ beers since opening, including a GABF Bronze-winning Kölsch in 2022 and a Gold Medal Saison at the 2026 Florida Brewers Guild competition.
If you want a sit-down meal with restaurant vibes, 3 Bulls is a solid local option. If you want a craft brewery experience with serious beer, Bullfrog is your spot.
For the rest of east Hillsborough — Brandon, FishHawk, Lithia, Riverview — Bullfrog is still the closest microbrewery with a full kitchen and taproom. About 10–15 minutes depending on where you’re coming from.
If You’re Willing to Drive to Tampa
Tampa proper has a solid craft beer scene. A few worth knowing:
BarrieHaus Beer Co. is a personal favorite. Great taproom, solid lager lineup, the kind of place you end up staying longer than you planned. Worth the drive if you want to explore what Tampa’s craft scene has to offer.
Sky Puppy Brewing is another good one to know about. Rotating taps, laid-back vibe, more neighborhood taproom than tourist destination. Good beer and a solid spot if you’re already in the area.
Leaven Brewing is actually in Riverview, so it’s the closest Tampa-area option for FishHawk and south Brandon folks. Worth checking out if you want something a little closer than downtown Tampa.
All three are roughly 25–35 minutes from Brandon. On a weekday, no problem. Friday evening, budget extra.
Which One to Pick, By Situation
Best for lunch with a full meal
Bullfrog Creek. It’s the only brewery on this list with a full kitchen open daily. Lunch specials run Monday through Friday: a smash burger and fries for $7.99 on Monday, wings at $0.99 each on Wednesday, pulled pork sandwich and fries on Thursday, and a Cuban panini on Friday. The Tampa options are mostly beer-first, food-secondary.
Best for craft beer variety
Tampa has more taprooms, and Cigar City has the name recognition. But Bullfrog has 380+ beers in their history and usually runs 16–18 taps. If you want variety without the drive, you’re not missing out.
Best for families
Bullfrog wins here. Full kids menu, dog-friendly patio, free parking, and the vibe is neighborhood restaurant, not nightlife spot. Cigar City and Coppertail are fine but lean more bar-forward. Not the ideal “kids in tow” stop.
Best for a night out
Depends on the night. At Bullfrog, there’s Music Bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM, Trivia on Wednesdays at 7 PM, and Queen of Hearts on Fridays at 7:30 PM. If you want to make a longer night of it, a Seminole Heights or Ybor City taproom crawl hits differently. Both are good. Just different.
Just want a beer, no food required
You don’t have to order food at any of these spots. At Bullfrog you can grab a pint and hang on the patio as long as you’d like. Same deal in Tampa. No pressure either way.
What Actually Makes Bullfrog Different
Two things: it’s veteran-owned and it’s genuinely local.
Jamie and Kelly Ratcliff built Bullfrog in Valrico because there was nothing like it out here. Head Brewer Eddie Siciliano came from Kane Brewing in New Jersey and Cape May Brewing before landing here, so the beer quality isn’t small-market amateur hour. This is a real production brewery with a real resume behind the bar.
The community piece matters too. Queen of Hearts jackpot proceeds benefit the Brandon Rotary Club Charity Foundation. Music Bingo nights raise money for local partner organizations. It’s a hangout spot that’s been part of this neighborhood since 2018, not a chain that showed up because the demographics looked right.
If you’ve never been, stop in and see it for yourself. Walk-ins welcome. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday from noon to 5 PM. Or reserve a table if you’re coming with a group.
Address: 3632 Lithia Pinecrest Rd, Valrico, FL 33596. Phone: (813) 703-8835. Hours: Mon–Thu 11:30 AM–10 PM, Fri–Sat 11:30 AM–11 PM, Sun 11:30 AM–8 PM.
The drive to Tampa is worth it sometimes. But for most nights, you don’t need to make it.
